There is a lot of support available for you on and off campus. If your experience gives you concern about any consequences (for example if you are being blackmailed or what to talk about harassment or discrimination), please be assured, you can talk to someone in confidence without your information shared. There are specialist services available and you don't have to report the incident to the police in order to access any of the services. Accessing support or making a report is entirely your choice. Support can be there for you whatever you decide to do.
What support do you feel you need?
What is the right support for you depends on what you may need in this moment. You may feel you need someone to talk to, be concerned about your safety and/or emotional wellbeing, or you may need some practical support, such as help with accessing safe accommodation or be worried about impact on your studies. It can feel overwhelming talking to someone about what has happened as well as dealing with any practical issues. We can help you break things down so that they are easier to manage. We have included a range of support below, one of these services or a combination may be helpful for you.
Support for students
Harassment and Misconduct Team: our university's specialist advisers can explaining what support is available and what would happen if you choose to make a formal complaint. They can also make personal referrals to other services who can help with practical issues such as mitigating circumstances or accommodation concerns. The service is confidential and your information would not be shared (unless there is an immediate risk to you or someone else). Student Counselling and Wellbeing: this service offers a range of emotional and wellbeing support from one to one counselling, a same day drop in service and a many in person and online workshops that may be helpful for you. Leeds University Union (LUU) Advice team: this service is independent of the university and can help support on a range of practical issues that may have arisen after your experience. This can include academic guidance if you have any exams or coursework due in, financial support, help with accommodation issues. They can also help make referrals to other support agencies and help with options around making a complaint if you wanted to. The team have a daily drop in service and work with other partners to deliver specialist drop in services. The service is confidential and no information will be shared about out you without your permission, unless you or someone else was at immediate risk. If you are a postgraduate research student, you may want to talk to your Supervisor about what has happened as they play a crucial role in supporting you with both the academic and pastoral elements of your studies, your Graduate School can also help. They can help advise you on your options for taking some time away from your studies, can explain how to ask for additional time to complete work and can also organise, or suggest, emotional and wellbeing support.
Support in Residences
If you live in a university halls of residence, you can contact your Residence Life Wardens who can offer support and signposting guidance. They hold advisory sessions and normally you don’t require an appointment to attend. To find out which Residence Life Warden(s) look after your residence and when they are available, visit contacts page and select your residence from the drop down menu.
